Ana shocked by Larcher De Brito Jun 17th 2015

Ana suffered a shock 4-6, 6-3, 6(6)-7 defeat to world No.135 Michelle Larcher De Brito in the second round of the AEGON Classic in Birmingham.

Just as last year's tournament, which she won without dropping a set, proved to be a dream, this year's event was a nightmare, as the 27-year-old lost her opening grass court match of the year.

"Today I started really bad until I found my rhythm and so on. Her ball was staying very, very low, so I struggled with it a little bit at times.

AEGON Classic draw Jun 13th 2015

Ana is seeded second at the AEGON Classic in Birmingham. She receives a bye in round one..

In round two Ana will face a qualifier, while 14th seed Irina-Camelia Begu could await in round three.

Eighth seed Sabin Lisicki is a potential quarter-final opponent, while No.4 Angelique Kerber and No.7 Andrea Petkovic are possible adversaries in the semi-finals.

The leading seeds in the top half of the draw, whom Ana cannot meet until the final, are No.1 Simona Halep, No.3 Carla Suarez Navarro, No.5 Eugenie Bouchard and No.6 Karolina Pliskova.

Ana has risen one place to No.6 in the latest WTA rankings, following her run to the semi-finals of the French Open.
Crucially, she has rocketed from 27th to 12th in the Road To Singapore, the standings that determine the eight qualifiers for the season-ending event. She is now within striking distance of the top eight.

Safarova comeback thwarts Ana Jun 4th 2015

Ana’s bid for a third French Open final came unstuck at the last hurdle as she fell 7-5, 7-5 to the superb Lucie Safarova in the semi-finals. The former world No.1 surged into a 5-2 lead in the opening set, but was unable to capitalize upon that advantage and suffered a straight sets defeat in one hour and 52 minutes.

Ana takes on world No.13 Lucie Safarova in the semi-finals of the French Open on Thursday in what will be her third encounter with a lefty during this tournament.
Ana trails the head-to-head series 5-3, but she ended her five-match losing streak - after having won the first two encounters – against the Czech in Tokyo last September.

After a drought of seven years, Ana is back in the semi-finals at the French Open as she fabulously beat Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina 6-3, 6-2. The 27-year-old dominated the entire contest and triumphed after just one hour and 15 minutes.

It was extremely windy on Philippe Chatrier Court and the weather conditions clearly affected both players in the early stages. From the first four games, three of them went against the server but as Ana was the only who had managed to hold, she went 3-1 up.
