Rogers Cup draw Aug 2nd 2014

Ana is seeded ninth at the Rogers Cup Presented by National Bank, which begins in Montreal on Monday. She will face a qualifier in round one.

Second seed Petra Kvitova, who won Wimbledon last month, is a possible quarter-final opponent, while No.3 Agnieszka Radwanska and No.8 Victoria Azarenka are possible adversaries in the semi-finals.

Ana loses Serena thriller Aug 2nd 2014

Ana was edged out 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 by world No.1 Serena Williams in the quarter-finals of the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford.

It was a gripping encounter. Ana played a superb opening set as she opened up a 5-1 lead, then served it out, losing just five points on serve during the set.

Williams hadn't performed well in the first set, although that was largely due to Ana's relentless hitting on the quick court. The American steadied the ship at the beginning of the second set and, almost inevitably, quickly earned a break.

Ana sets up Serena meeting Jul 31st 2014

Ana produced a dominant display to defeat world No.421 Carol Zhao and set up a quarter-final clash with top seed Serena Williams. The 26-year-old triumphed 6-1, 6-1 in just 55 minutes.

So it proved, with Ana scoring two breaks in each set. Zhao won just three points on her second serve in the entire match.

The match will also be remembered for one of Lisicki's first serves, which was timed at 131mph - a new world record.
