Ana and Maria Kirilenko stormed to a superb 6-0, 7-6 victory over sixth seeds and reigning Olympic champions Ting Li and Tiantian Sun in the second round of the Rogers Cup doubles event.
The teenagers broke the Chinese pairing, who have a combined doubles ranking of 61 compared to Ana and Maria’s 99, three times as they completed their second ever whitewash together. Remarkably, the more experienced team were allowed to win only six points during an opening set that lasted just 20 minutes.
Li and Sun got their act together in the second set and broke in the third game to lead 2-1 but the youngsters broke back immediately.
The Chinese team broke again to lead 4-3 but Ana and Maria again broke back. Further breaks where exchanged until the teenagers won the tiebreak 7-5 after an hour and 15 minutes.
Their reward is a quarter-final against No.2 seeds Cara Black and Anna-Lena Groenefeld.
