Updated: Ana up to No.17

With her Rogers Cup victory in Montreal yesterday, which is worth 300 points, Ana moves up two places to No.17 in the new Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings. Consequently, she will be seeded in the top 16 for next week’s US Open. Standings that determine the eight qualifiers for the season-ending Sony Ericsson Championships in Madrid (All players begin the year on ‘0’ and Ana now has 912pts), which sees her reside in 13th place, up six places from last week.

Ana’s doubles ranking also soars. Her quarter-final appearance in Montreal alongside Maria Kirilenko takes Ana’s ranking up 11 places to No.61 - a career high.

Her victory in the Rogers Cup means that Ana wins the US Open Series, the group of North American hard court tournaments that precede the year's final Grand Slam. With one week of competition remaining, Ana has 127 points.

The final event, the Pilot Pen Tennis tournament in New Haven, offers 50 points to the winner but the only player who was capable of catching Ana who was appearing in it was Patty Schnyder (80 points) and she lost in the first round on Monday.
