Ana's second round match against Sarah Borwell has been scheduled as the fourth match on Court 18 today. It is expected to begin sometime after 5pm local time (6pm Central European Time).
Ana was not happy with many parts of her game during her 7-5, 7-6 win over Emmanuelle Gagliardi yesterday. She was especially disappointed with her delivery. “I should hurt opponents much more with my serve. I think it has a lot of potential,” she said.
Ana added: “It will be different playing against a home player. I just want to improve on my performance against Gagliardi. I’m looking forward to this match.”
Borwell’s 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 defeat of Poland’s Marta Domachowska, who is ranked 183 places above her, was only the Briton’s second ever win on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour. She has a lot of respect for Ana. “She’s obviously a very talented young player,” said Borwell.
Along with Martina Hingis and Britain’s Anne Keothavong, Ana unveiled a new adidas dress during the Championships. “It’s very good,” she said. “It has a little bit of black so we weren’t sure whether [The All England Club, who operate a strict all-white dress code] would allow it, but they did.”
Ana’s path to the fourth round was almost made much easier but 14th seed Dinara Safina recovered from a 6-3, 4-2 deficit to beat American Jill Craybas.
