Updated: Ana withdraws from Porsche Tennis Grand Prix

Ana has been forced to withdraw from next week's Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart because of a ruptured tendon in her right shoulder.

“I’m really disappointed that I can’t play in Stuttgart,” said Ana. “It is one of the best organised and most fun tournaments on the Tour.

“My shoulder has been hurting. I wasn’t able to serve at 100 per cent against Venus and I felt pain when I practiced this morning. The most important thing is not to make it worse, so I decided to withdraw. I couldn’t play like this.”

Ana, who had an MRI scan on Sunday evening, added: “It is not serious but the doctor told me to rest for at least two weeks. The priority is to heal it completely. It’s frustrating, especially because I was injured for some of the indoor season last year, but these things happen in tennis.”
