Ana’s scheduled third round opponent Jelena Jankovic has withdrawn from the Rogers Cup. Ana receives a walkover and will play world No.24 Katarina Srebotnik in the quarter-finals tomorrow.

Jankovic’s withdrawal, due to injury, comes within 24 hours of top seed and defending champion Kim Clijsters retiring injured midway through her second round match against local wild card Stephanie Dubois.

Clijsters was in the same quarter as Ana. Dubois went on to face Srebotnik today, with the Slovenian winning 6-3, 6-2.

Jankovic said: “I am really disappointed for pulling out of the Rogers Cup. I am playing really well at the moment and am in good form. It is sad that I got injured but I don’t want to risk any further damage. I enjoy Montreal and look forward to coming again.”

What’s more, fifth seed Nicole Vaidisova has also withdrawn injured. Consequently, the winner of the Ana-Srebotnik match will player either No.9 seed Dinara Safina or Nicole Pratt in the semi-finals.
