Updated: Serbians soar into play-offs

Serbia & Montenegro reached the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Europe/Africa Zone Group I play-offs by beating Denmark.

The victory means that Ana and her teammates top Pool B with a 100 per cent record; the draw for Saturday's play-offs takes place tomorrow.

Ana beat Danish No.1 Caroline Wozniacki 6-3, 6-0 to seal victory, after Ana Timotic had given the Serbians a 1-0 lead by defeating Eva Dyrberg 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

The doubles rubber was therefore academic.

Though she has faced opponents ranked far beneath her, Ana's results this week suggest a ruthlessness: in her three singles rubbers during the round-robin stages Ana has dropped just eight games.

Serbia & Montenegro's possible play-off opponents are the other three pool winners: the Slovak Republic and Great Britain won pools A and C respectively while Israel top Pool D going into the final day's play.

The Slovak Republic boast world No.16 Daniela Hantuchova - the only player in this group ranked higher than Ana - among their line-up. Israel have the strongest team overall: Shahar Peer and Anna Smashnova are both ranked in the world's top 50, while Great Britain are unquestionably the weakest of the potenial opponents.
