Over the next month or so we will be screening highlights of some of Ana's most memorable matches. Where better place to start than the 2004 Zurich Open second round match between Ana and Venus Williams?
For many, this was the match in which Ana first caught the eye – it was only her third Sony Ericsson WTA Tour tournament. Aged just 16 and ranked No.156, she went toe-to-toe with the then world No.11 and winner of four Grand Slam titles during two absorbing tiebreak sets.
Ana played some wonderfully attacking tennis and had several chances to win both tiebreaks; only inexperience prevented her from emerging victorious. So impressive was Ana's performance that Eurosport commentator Chris Bradnam remarked afterwards: "Surely she will be a sensation in the years to come."
