Winning start at Wimbledon

Ana moved into the second round of the Championships thanks to a 7-6, 6-0 victory over Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano. It was one of the best serving displays of Ana’s career, as she powered six aces (zero double faults) and produced a first serve percentage of 67.

Furthermore, the 12th seed returned impressive winners-to-unforced errors numbers of 17-7.

Indeed Ana’s serve was the key to the opening set. Though she broke to lead 2-0, her groundstrokes lacked conviction somewhat. Tentative at times, Ana was broken back and Razzano looked dangerous at the end of the opening set.

However, Ana showed toughness in playing her best tennis when it mattered: she powered through the tiebreak 7-1.

Her mood relaxed by the one set lead, Ana played with far greater abandon in the second set. Her groundstrokes were hit with greater depth and danger. Whereas set one lasted 46 minutes, the second chapter took only 22, such was Ana’s dominance.

Ana will take on Canada's Eugenie Bouchard in the second round on Wednesday.
