WTA article - Ivanovic Stuns Kuznetsova

... The most shocking entry into the quarterfinals came with Ana Ivanovic's (pictured) surprising 63 36 75 victory over Kuznetsova. Her victory against the world No.7 comes just two matches after defeating world No.12 Nadia Petrova in the second round.

"This is quite a great result for me," Ivanovic said. "But now I'm really happy that I beat two Top 15 players."

The 17-year-old cracked the Top 100 at the end of 2004 and has continued to demonstrate some superb tennis, including her run earlier this year at Canberra, which helped produce her first Sony Ericsson WTA Tour title.

However, in order to reach her first career Tier I semifinal, Ivanovic is going to have to do something she hasn't been able to do on two separate occasions this year - defeat top seed Amelie Mauresmo. Mauresmo advanced to the quarterfinals with a 61 75 victory against No.16 seed Karolina Sprem.

This will be the third time this year that Ivanovic and Mauresmo have been on opposite sides of the net. At the Australian Open, the Frenchwoman took a straight sets decision, while Ivanovic was able to push Mauresmo to three sets at Doha before taking another loss.

"This is the third time this year that we have played together," said Ivanovic of facing Mauresmo. "Last time we played three sets, so I know little bit what she is about. I'm looking forward for that match and really want to get the best out of it."
