Ana overcame world No.27 Jie Zheng 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 to move into the third round of the Rogers Cup and a rematch with countrywoman Jelena Jankovic.

The 18-year-old made the perfect start as she broke the Chinese player in the opening game then held to love to move 2-0 ahead.

At 3-2, Ana dropped her first points on serve and was broken. The next two games went with serve until Ana secured a decisive break in the ninth game before sealing the opening set 6-4 with an ace.

Ana missed a break point opportunity at the start of the second set and was broken in the fourth game. 23-year-old Zheng led 4-1, but Ana broke in the seventh game to get back on terms.

Serve matched serve until, with Zheng serving at 5-5, Ana broke. She had three match points at 40-0 on her own serve in the following game but was broken and a tiebreak ensued. The Chinese woman secured a mini-break early on and went on to win it 7-5.

Ana fought off three break points as she served in the first game of the final set. She herself missed three chances to break in the next game before converting a fourth to lead 2-0.

However, Zheng created four break points of her own in game three and broke back, but a third consecutive break of serve saw Ana lead 3-1. She then saved a break point with an ace as she extended her advantage to 4-1.

Further breaks were exchanged until the No.13 seed clinched the third set 6-2. She served 12 aces during the match, which lasted two hours and 17 minutes.

Ana will face world No.21 Jankovic, who beat her in Los Angeles last week, in the third round tomorrow. She is in doubles action later today alongside Maria Kirilenko. The teenagers meet Chinese sixth seeds Ting Li and Tiantian Sun.
