Ana remains at No.14 in the penultimate Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles ranking list of 2006. She is guaranteed to finish the season at her highest ever year-end ranking.
Ana, who turned 19 today, gained 29 points from her quarter-final appearance in the Gaz de France Stars in Hasselt. She is just one place below her highest ever career ranking.
Her doubles ranking goes up two places to No.52, while she is confirmed as finishing 15th in the Porsche Race because the regular season is over.
Ana produced an erratic display as she was beaten 6-3, 6-4 by world No.41 Michaella Krajicek in the quarter-finals of the Gaz de France Stars.
The 18-year-old never found her rhythm against the Dutchwoman. Krajicek was far more consistent than the No.3 seed and skilfully took advantage of the many unforced errors Ana made.
Ana did make a bright start. She earned three break points in the opening game as she out-rallied the 17-year-old, but Krajicek saved them all. Ana then played a very indifferent service game and was broken to 15.
Ana clinched a hard fought 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 victory over Germany's Angelique Kerber to reach the quarter-finals of the Gaz de France Stars.
Ana quickly took control of the match and led 3-1 and added another break before sealing the first set.
The second set went with serve until 18-year-old Kerber broke in the 11th game. As the world No.244 served for the set, Ana broke back, only to lose the tiebreak.
The world No.14 broke to lead 3-1 in the decider. Kerber broke back but Ana broke again
Following the successful introduction of match highlights last week, we are pleased to launch another fun feature: from time to time we will publish candid off-court photos of Ana.

Ana scored a routine 6-3, 7-5 victory over world No.240 Andrea Petkovic to move into the second round of the Gaz de France Stars in Belgium.
Ana broke in the third and fifth games of the first set to surge 4-1 ahead. She was broken back but wrapped up the first set comfortably.
The German, making her debut in the main draw of a Sony Ericsson WTA Tour event, then broke at the beginning of the second set and led 2-0 and 3-1, before Ana hit back then broke again at the end of the second set to avoid a tiebreak.
Ana's first round match againat Germany's Andrea Petkovic the Gaz de France Stars has been scheduled as the last match on Center Court on Tuesday. It is due to begin sometime after 8.30pm local time.
19-year-old Petkovic is the current world No.240. She qualified for the event by beating world No.55 Maria Elena Camerin and world No.110 Yulia Beygelzimer, so she is clearly in good form. Indeed this week she moved to her highest ever ranking
A holder of five ITF Women's Circuit titles, Petkovic is making her Sony Ericsson WTA Tour main draw debut against Ana
Ana has jumped one place in the latest Sony Ericsson WTA tour rankings list. She now stands at world No.14, which is a reflection of her quarter-final appearance in last week’s Generali Ladies Linz tournament.
Though the 18-year-old lost in the last eight to top seed Maria Sharapova, so was unable to protect 49 of the 88 points she obtained from last year’s semi-final appearance in the same event, she moves ahead of Francesca Schiavone. This is because the Italian did not defend the points she earned 12 months ago .
Due to multiple withdrawals, Ana's draw at the Gaz de France Stars in Belgium has changed completely. Originally seeded fifth and scheduled to play Michaella Krajicek in round one, she is now the third highest ranked player in the draw and will face a qualifier in the first round.
Nadia Petrova and Nicole Vaidisova are the highest ranked players to withdraw. A whopping 10 spots in the draw are occupied by qualifiers and lucky losers.
