On the eve of the French Open we profile all of the women’s seeds. Please note that any opinions expressly here are those of the author and are entirely independent of Ana:
1. Justine Henin
Ana has been drawn to face qualifier Sofia Arvidsson in the first round of Roland Garros, which begins on Sunday. Ana is seeded seventh for the year's second Grand Slam.
Ana has played the world No.121 twice before: she lost 6-1, 6-1 to the Swede in qualifying in Luxembourg in 2003, then beat her 6-3, 6-1 in the Hopman Cup in Perth last year. The match will take place on either Monday or Tuesday.
We begin our countdown to the 2007 French Open with a look back on Ana’s past performances at Roland Garros:
In 2005 Ana entered the French Open seeded in a Grand Slam for the first time in her young career (#29). She wasted little time substantiating that honour, dispatching of local favourite Stephanie Foretz 6-3, 6-3 in the first round.
Lena: Hey Ana! Are you allowed to keep the trophies you win or do you have to give them back? Good luck for the future!
Ana: Thanks! The tournaments are kind enough to make a replica trophy that we keep. But the original trophy stays at the club. I have most of my trophies in my room at my family's house but the rest are in the living room.
Ana stays at No.8 in the latest Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles rankings, which are published today. Consequently, she will be seeded in the top seven at Roland Garros next week – the 19-year-old's highest ever position at a Grand Slam.
The elevation in the seedings is due to the withdrawal of world No.6 Martina Hingis from the clay court major. It means that Ana cannot face any of the other top eight seeds before the quarter-final stage.
Thanks to everyone who entered the April competition. We received many entertaining entries that the judges very much enjoyed reading.
Entrants were asked to submit a story detailing how and why they first became a supporter of Ana. Deciding the winners proved to be an extremely difficult task, with so many high quality entries. Congratulations to everyone who took part:
