Fabulous Ana powers past Schnyder May 11th 2007

Ana produced one of the most mature performances of her career as she beat world No.19 Patty Schnyder 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals of the Qatar Telecom German Open. It was a match of the very highest quality, with Ana’s scintillating hitting eventually proving too much for the defensive brilliance of Schnyder.

“I really enjoyed it,” said Ana. “It was a little bit tough in the second set. I didn’t feel the best. I just tried to stay there, try to focus on what I had to do, move automatically and try not to think too much about how I should play.”

Ana surges into quarter-finals May 10th 2007

For a third day running, Ana scored an impressive straight sets win at the Qatar Telecom German Open. The 19-year-old ousted world No.29 Alona Bondarenko 6-3, 5-0 (retired) in just 60 minutes.

The opening four games all went against serve until Ana clicked into gear and held to 15. Bondarenko also held but then Ana scored what proved to be the decisive break in the eighth game. She then held serve to take the first set 6-3.

Doubles defeat May 9th 2007

Ana and Maria Kirilenko lost 6-4, 6-3 to Janette Husarova and Meghann Shaughnessy in the opening round of the Qatar Telecom German Open.

The youngsters were ahead early on, racing to a 3-0 lead, before the experience of the Slovakian-American pairing began to tell.

Ana is in singles action again tomorrow. She plays Alona Bondarenko in round three after the Ukrainian won two matches in a day: a three-set triumph over Francesca Schiavone and a straight sets win over 17th seed Tatiana Garbin.

Ana powers into round three May 9th 2007

Ana produced another commanding performance as she dismissed world No.63 Elena Likhovtseva 6-3, 6-2 to reach the third round of the Qatar Telecom German Open.

Ana was on top throughout the 63-minute encounter and was never broken. She broke the Russian's serve twice in each set and produced a first serve percentage of 58.

Francesca Schiavone and Alona Bondarenko will resume their first round match later today with the winner facing 17th seed Tathiana Garbin; Ana will play one of those three players in the third round.

Early start in Berlin May 9th 2007

Ana's second round match against Elena Likhovtseva at the Qatar Telecom German Open – her first ever encounter with the Russian – is scheduled as the first on Court 2 on Wednesday. It will begin at 10am local time (4am Eastern Time), weather permitting.

Ana breezes into round two May 8th 2007

Ana eased into the second round of the Qatar Telecom German Open with a 6-2, 6-1 win over world No.69 Laura Granville. She will play Russia’s Elena Likhovtseva in the second round on Wednesday.

Ana got off to the perfect start, breaking the American in the opening game. She held then added another break in the third game to seize control of the match from the very start.

Though Granville broke back, Ana added another break and closed out the first set after 28 minutes.

Berlin and rankings update May 7th 2007

Ana's first round match at the Qatar Telecom German Open has been postponed due to rain. The 19-year-old was due to face American Granville but bad weather in Germany forced a cancellation of play. The match has been rescheduled for Tuesday.

Ana to face Granville May 5th 2007

Ana has been drawn against world No.62 Laura Granville in the first round of the Qatar Telecom German Open, which begins in Berlin on Monday. Ana is seeded 12th for the Tier I claycourt event.

The 19-year-old beat the American 6-3, 7-5 in Miami two years ago in their only previous meeting.

Should Ana overcome Granville she will face either Emilie Loit or Elena Likhovtseva in the second round. Sixth seed and world No.8 Nicole Vaidisova is Ana's scheduled third round opponent, while Martina Hingis is a potential quarter-final adversary.

Ana vs Molik match highlights May 4th 2007

One of Ana's most accomplished performances so far this season came in the third round of the Pacific Life Open when she beat former world No.8 Alicia Molik 6-2, 6-1.
