Ana withdrew from Rogers Cup Aug 19th 2005

Ana withdrew from the tournament on Thursday after sustaining a right pectoral muscle strain on Wednesday. Her withdrawal gave No.7 seed Kim Clijsters a spot in the quarterfinals.

Ana's statement: "It hurt during the doubles match (Wednesday) night, the best thing I can do now is to get treatment and hopefully be ready for the U.S. Open."

Ana to face Kim Aug 18th 2005

After in excess of 5 hours of exhausting and exhilarating tennis yesterday, Ana goes on to face Kim Clijsters, the No. 7 seed, who last made quick work of France's Virginie Razzano winning 6-3, 6-0. The match is scheduled as a third match on the center court.

Ana survives Toronto scare Aug 18th 2005

Ana overcame a poor start to beat Marion Bartoli 4-6, 7-6(5),7-6(3) in the second round of the Rogers Cup in Toronto.

Ana lost the first set but showed familiar guile and resolve to hit back against her French opponent. Ana will next meet Kim Clijsters or Virginie Razzano.

Ana battles to Toronto win Aug 16th 2005

Ana began the Rogers Cup in Toronto on Tuesday with a hard fought first-round win over Tatiana Garbin of Italy, 6-2 7-6.

Ana will now face Marion Bartoli of France in the second round.

Ana to face Garbin Aug 15th 2005

Ana’s first opponent on this Tier I event is Tatiana Garbin from Italy, ranked 66th in the world. Garbin had to play qualifications to make it in the main draw. Ana never played her before.

Ana is fit and ready to restart her season. This is her debut in Toronto but she is undoubtedly going to do well. Her preparations in Zurich went very well. It was hard work, especially in the beginning. Ana worked a lot on her serve, because she wants to make new personal record (at Wimbledon she served 123mph, which was the fastest serve of the tournament).

ROGERS CUP: The Draw Aug 14th 2005

The draw for the 2005 Rogers Cup edition at Toronto was released on Saturday August 14. Ana is seeded 12th and she will face Kveta Peschke in the 1st round.

Ana is in the top half of the draw and may possibly face Kim Clijsters in the 3rd round, Svetlana Kuznetsova in the 4th round, and Maria Sharapova or Serena Williams in the semi final.

Ana reaches new high, career best rank of 19 Aug 8th 2005

This week Ana moved up one place to #19 in the in the world ranking released by the Women's Tennis Association on Monday. Ana did not play since Wimbledon because she is still under age restrictions.
Ana can boost her position further in Toronto next week.

Ana is a top 20 player! Jul 4th 2005

After reaching 3rd round in her debut at Wimbledon, Ana entered the top 20 ranking for the first time.

Ana started the year ranked 97th and began the season by winning her first Tour singles title at Canberra as a qualifier. She reached her first Tier I quarter final at Miami, reached her first career Tier II semi final at Warsaw and reached quarter finals in her debut appearance at Roland Garros.

The fastest serve at Wimbledon Jul 4th 2005

It is official, Ana fired the women's game fastest serve on wimbledon this year. Ana clocked 123 mph (196 km/h) in her second round match against Stephanie Foretz (FRA). Ana is ahead of Venus Williams (121 mph), Elena Baltacha (121 mph), Justine Henin-Hardenne (118 mph) and Svetlana Kuznetsova (117 mph).

Venus recorded the fastest serve in the WTA Tour history (128 mph) at the 1998 Zurich tournament.

Ana bows out of Wimbledon Jun 28th 2005

Ana’s Wimbledon campaign came to an end when she and her Slovenian partner, Tina Krizan, were beaten 1-6, 3-6 by 4th seeds Nadia Petrova (RUS) and Meghann Shaughnessy (USA).

Ana had earlier lost in the singles third round.
